As part of our continuing Master Series, Roots Motion is proud to present an exclusive workshop with the brilliant and enigmatic Leon Parker. Known for his minimalist approach, and the use of a stripped down drum kit, Parker became a sensation in the 1990s, (recording for Blue Note, and as a leader for Columbia) only to vanish from the jazz world at the peak of his powers. He reemerged after 15 years, and is currently working in the bands of Brad Mehldau, Peter Bernstein and Aaron Goldberg. Parker’s rhythmic mastery extends beyond jazz into the musics of the African and Asian continents. His playing is at once contemporary and ancient, deeply earthy and not of this time or place.
